Avoiding multi-tasking

I have had to put aside the "small, unimportant in the long-run" tasks so I can really concentrate on the important ones lately. But how does one ignore the "what do you think about this?" emails and non-related to one's research activities?

I present you with my latest find, Think! software for Mac. It lets you choose an application you are working in (i.e. your favorite Latex software if you are writing, your favorite reference/reader software if you have to quickly review a bunch of related work, etc.), and makes you ignore the rest of the world (email, chat, news, the market, blogs, shoes, etc.). It has been really great to actually spend X uninterrupted hours in a row concentrating on the most important task at hand. Multi-tasking is great, but tasks that require concentration do not get done that way.

Ok, time to start another thinking session. I'll be back when I feel like I have made significant headway on this task.
