The greyhound bus things sounds scary (as in ew scary, not halloween scary)! Dr. Man used to take one from Undergrad Institution to InLawTown and he has told me stories. These stories tend to consist of unwashed, stinky people and random things people would do on the bus. And that was a relatively small distance to travel!
Yep, it was a bit creepy. I wore giant headphones to keep people from trying to talk to me and avoided eye contact at all cost. But hey, how else do you cross this giant country for $107?
I had a great time travelling around the US and Canada by bus and train when I was 19. New York - Columbus Ohio (Greyhound), Toronto-Vancouver (train), Vancouver-Seattle-San Fran-LA (Greyhound). I did it in the summer when the buses are all full of foreign students though!
Oh, and sorry, but I've already done this meme. It apparently wasn't very memorable though, I've been tagged for it 3 times since then!
Very true. $107? I don't even think you can get a plane ticket to any destination for that little anymore.
Cath - there were no students on my buses, that would have made it much much better. Sounds like you got to see lots of great places during your trips; perhaps you should start a "all the places I have been" meme!
Amanda - yep, it was the cheapest option even then. But perhaps I should also mention that it took 80 hours of living on a bus and stopping only at gas stations :)
I did England by rail when I was 20 but never the Greyhound! Very adventurous!
And I actually finished the meme in a timely fashion!
Very cool - going over to check it out!
hm, I did the same Greyhound as Cath > Vancouver-Seattle-SF-LA. Altohugh I didn't have any foreigners on there but a lovely couple from Austin TX who looked after me a bit when we needed to change bus in Sacramento and I was having trouble with the bag and the restroom ;)
And then LA - Las Vegas and back again. I wouldn't do that again though.... since the bus on the way to LV did not have air condition and was slammed with people and it was July and super HOT. Then on the way home I got slightly stranded in LA downtown instead of ending up in Hollywood. Good thing? I learned that Iwouldn't walk around alone down town LA as a white 22 year old....
...and I am a bit curious about the horse incident. Did you get back on or have you never gone back??
Chall - I think that looong bus trips is something one has to try, but like you, I am not sure I would do it again :) I didn't get back on the horse the same day it threw me off, but I have ridden horses since. I am no longer around people who ride horses so I haven't been on a horse in years, but I think I would do it again if the opportunity presents itself.
