This week has been a strange one work-wise. Everything I had to do that was time-sensitive kept failing for weird reasons. I fell into the "work till 2am" trap a few times, and guess what? The next day, with way too little sleep, even more things would go wrong. I really do need my beauty sleep to actually be able to work without stumbling over myself.
But now I have to put work on hold - I am leaving for a conference tomorrow, and am yet to begin thinking about packing. This conference is unusually long - 6 full days plus a day on each end since I am kind-of sort-of helping this whole thing happen, so I am bringing papers to read in case I find a chance to think for 5 minutes here and there. My presentation is on Monday, so I should be much relieved after that. It's the kind of conference that is good to go to when looking for a job; too bad I am not yet on the job market. But, maybe I will meet some people this year, and they will remember me later.
Last year, this conference started out on a wrong foot. A random guy in the hall asked me: "So, how does it feel to be the only woman among 10,000 attendees?" (Which of course wasn't true, I counted at least another 30 women - but surely there were more in the 10,000!) So this year I am bringing along at least one girl and know a few more that are coming. That should make it better, right?

Good luck with the conference!
And Grr to that jerk. That's just unnecessary.
Thanks! I actually got a similar comment today, but since I saw it coming I purposefully led the conversation in a technical direction. After we established that I could teach him a thing or two, the look on his face was quite funny :)
Yay! Go, girl!
6 days is crazy long.
Yep, it is a really long conference. But it is my favorite to go to as it is worth it.
