Yep. It is snowing here. In a state that goes into complete panic when once in a great while it snows here. And it decided to snow on the day Hubby had to drive 2 hours from a major airport, returning home from what felt like a really long conference (at least to me). Did I mention that people here do not know how to drive in the 0.1 inches of snow we got? There were dozens of accidents in town, and even a fatal one that closed the freeway right before Hubby approached town. The phones were crazy (we have snow! the freeway is closed!), so about 3 hours into his 2-hour drive I was getting a little antsy as I couldn't reach him.
But he's home now. I fed him some hot potato chowder, followed with the spiced/mulled wine/gluehwein/whatever else people call it in different countries. And even though it is only sort of cold here, it really hit the spot. Today I made the cinnamon/cloves/orange version, but if you share your favorite spiced wine recipe, I will be glad to try it!
P.S. And now my Southern-raised
adopted child husband is eating snow...

Snow ice-cream is good! But maybe he's just eating it raw? :)
ooooohhh potato chowder!! if you made it, can you post your recipe?? as for gluhwein, mine's the same cinnamon/cloves/orange version and tasty as hell. it's really winter when you can make gluhwein :)
and i'm jealous of the snow, we've had miserable rain since yesterday.
SF - he was eating it raw! The snow is all gone now (but not because he ate it all :P)
Quiet - I'll try to post the recipe soon! And yes, gluhwein makes it feel like real winter :)
LOL - when my sister was about 19, she called me from university, audibly drunk. "We having mulled wine without the mulled!" she squealed enthusiastically. Upon interrogation, this turned out to be microwaved red wine... students, eh?!
Aw yes, students will drink anything :)
hehehehe.
I lived in the capital of your state last time it snowed there. It only lasted 3 hours in the middle of the night but people seeing snow for the first time are hilarious! All my friends were trying to make snowmen and snow angels with the dusting that fell!
I would love to come home from a snowstorm to a meal like that =)
And really? Eating snow? Like, off the ground?!
ScientistMother - it definitely was an interesting evening :)
Albatross - that only sounds vaguely familiar :) An excited/surprised "Did you know that snow sticks?" coming from a someone who has graduated college is one of my favorites :)
The Bean-Mom - Hubby could definitely tell I missed him while he was gone :) And, he said that "snow tastes like car" (yep, you guessed the site of the sample collection :)
