Mmmm, sweets

At the risk of making this sound like a food blog, I present you with pics of the sweets I served at a baby shower I hosted a few weeks ago for a labmate (before they go into the black hole that is my Pictures folder).Figure 1. Madeleines. These take awhile to make, but their rich, buttery flavor is ah-so-worth-it! My favorite coffee cake hands-down.
Figure 2. Truffle cake. This is really not a cake, just pure truffle. What could be a better choice of a desert for a few dozen women? ;) The consensus was that it should be dubbed "Sinful." If I could only have one type of desert for the rest of my life, please let it be this melty goodness.

Yummy! Those are making me drool.

Oh, that looks tasty! I propose we set up a blogger meet-up, and everyone who has ever posted pictures of food that made the rest of us drool has to bring that food item to the meet-up!

Rebecca - that's what I was thinking when you paraded your Pi cake :)

Amanda - me too. I think I will have to make a desert soon (it's been a few weeks = way too long).

MadHatter - agreed! As long as each blogger only has to bring one item (now how do we get everyone to agree on the same item? ;)

Mad Hatter, clarification necessary: do you mean one item of posted food, or each item of posted food? I put up a recipe every week. Not that I haven't thought about quitting the whole science thing and going into catering and all... but...

Mmmmm, I love madeleines.

EtBr--I've thought about giving up science for catering too! Wanna start a business together if this science thing doesn't work out? :-) I have to say, though, my husband has astutely pointed out that the reason that seems like a good idea now is because I'm cooking by choice and for fun, and that I'll enjoy cooking a lot less if I were to do it for work. Oh, and I meant one food item per person. Perhaps you could let your readers pick their favorite?

Mad Hatter -
Funny, my husband is the one who wants me to go into catering or opening a bakery, and I'm the one who argues that I will enjoy it far less if I have to do it as a career! But I'm totally down for starting one up with another failed scientist! :)

Cath - I was quite excited when I found a recipe for madeleines that worked. If they were less work, I am sure I could score some major points for bringing them to meetings!

MadHatter and EtBromide - I wonder how many people consider cooking/baking as a backup career. Everyone's gotta eat! If y'all start that business, give me a holler ;)

EtBr and ScienceGirl--Sounds like an awesome plan! We can even incorporate things from our science backgrounds. For example, EtBr can make cakes in the shape of a teratoma (cancer research, right?), I can make ones shaped like Ebola, and ScienceGirl can make ones that look like the blue screen of death. People will just love them! :-)

I would like to place an order for sinful, to be shipped immediately.

ScientistMother - me too! My stove has been disconnected for a week (don't ask), but as soon as I have it back, you bet I will be making something sinful!
