Would you mind getting off my toe?

I am in a field where sharing is a rather rare thing (we do live in a cyberspace, so there is usually plenty of room for all). Arguably, this is also one of the qualities that attracts people who don't like to deal with others very much. We rarely have opportunities to step on each others' toes, so when it does happen, it is only more surprising.

I think the general rule should be: "If you are going to mess with my shit, talk to me before you do." It seems so obvious that I didn't think I had to verbalize it with every single socially awkward geek person I work with.

Apparently, that is asking too much. After all, I am a whole 20 feet (or an email!) away.

Messing with someone else's stuff, virtual or otherwise, is totally not cool! I hope you put the fear of god, so to speak, in the poor sap who did it. :-)

You bet I did! Good thing there are (digital) tracks to rub his nose in!

One labmate and I have started messing with each others stuff when we leave the lab for a few days. Luckily, it is all in fun and is usually just rearranged toys on the desk. If anyone touches my lab stuff, I don't handle it well.

UR and EGF - not getting involved :) And, thanks both!

Albatross - luckily, it is easier to undo digital messing. Still, annoying, and even more surprising when people don't understand why they shouldn't do it?!?
