Random bullets of grad school town

Things are a bit too crazy for a thought-out post, so here are some (whiny) bullets instead.
  • It is kind of difficult to make a real meal with the one old pot that got left behind here. And, not a single sharp knife (of course I packed all the stuff I actually use and moved it to the new state!).
  • I am grateful we are able to rent (a portion) of the house to a friend while we are gone; but him watching TV on LOUD any time he is not at work is not very conducive to me being productive when in said house. (TV addiction is a bad thing, people!!!)
  • I need to track down all my committee members while here. I feel like I am beating my head against the wall although they have had plenty of e-mail notices/pleas.
  • Why are there so many students with flu symptoms roaming the halls? Have they heard of staying home and not getting others sick?
  • I have successfully reverted back to coming to work late and staying up late (something to do with still being in a meeting at 8pm? I dunno). I miss my regular 8-5 schedule in my new home state; even though I still do some work in the evening and on the weekends, the predictability of my new schedule makes me feel so much more in control of my life. Here, I just feel like a real student again (so much for trying to grow up, eh?)

How's your Grandad doing? is he better?

PUI prof - he is doing much better, thanks for asking! I actually talked to him a few days ago, and he seemed quite chipper (albeit still as hard of hearing as always).

Are you ready to take on real life over student life, forever? There were times where I used to really want to stick with student life, but when I defended, I felt nostalgic on campus, but not really desiring to go back to that life.

When you're ready to kick the student life to the curb, general estimation is +1 more year to get it done and leave :).

PD - yes, I am ready to be done with student life, or at least the version that I have had to comply with in grad school (can't plan anything ever - meals, workouts, day trips - because have to be available for a meeting at a drop of a hat at any point no matter what day/time it is).

I wish that 1 year estimate could be applied to me; I suspect it will be a bit longer (although I am glad that I am only on a student schedule for a few weeks here and there from now on).
